Following on from a decade of sampling across most of the island of Cyprus, in October 2022, the Freshwater Life Project team successfully completed stage 1 of their eDNA search to find the Cyprus freshwater blenny, a bottom-dwelling river species last seen in 1909, and determine if it still exists on the island. The first phase of the project was funded by the Cyprus Environment Foundation, an organisation established in 2021 to help the communities of Cyprus become leaders in biodiversity conservation, land regeneration, and sustainability.
